  • Win2k3 x64 - sessions slow logging off

    Hi all,
I have two Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 R2 servers clustered that are Terminal Servers (yes, I know you can't "really" cluster TS). Anyway, recently my users have reported that its taking 4-6 minutes to logoff. I know there is a user profile cleanup tool, but thats only for x32.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Eoin

How long does it take to logon?

Do your users have local only or roaming profiles?

    Anything in the event logs?

Do the users have any logoff scripts configured in Group Policy?

      Only a few seconds...

Do your users have local only or roaming profiles?
      Only local profiles

      Anything in the event logs?
Nothing that seems to point to this issue, bear in mind, there's 240 users that have access globally, with 20-50 on at any one time.

Do the users have any logoff scripts configured in Group Policy?
      Nothing.
      Thanks,

Slow logoff's might point to DNS problems. You might check that out.

Have you rebooted the server recently? If so, did it come up reasonably quickly?

What you installed on the server? Is you are using windows update to update the servers?

It was rebooted last week for the MS Critical patch, but that was an SMS push, so I didn't see it booting. However I was working on it a month or so back and it didn't take any longer than I'd expect...
                Thanks,

This is used for SAS (statistics application), but has been ok for over a year with that. It also has Office 2007 Pro, which is up to date as of last week. We use SMS to deploy patches, and this server is up to date with them as of last week too...
                  Thanks,

Have a look at my link. There is a slow logoff patch for the advanced SMS client on there (last one I think).

Edit: ok, not even close to the last one but it was there somewhere...

Yea I saw that one before, but its not available for x64 servers...

Sorry, didn't realise. The patch was for the SMS server I thought?

Looks like it updates the server and the clients.

Not really an option I'm afraid. With over 2,600 servers and 25,000 clients SMS is our global standard. I can check it against Windows Update at the weekend, I have an outage scheduled to apply two patches I got from MS. (I'll post the details tomorrow when I'm back in the office...)
                              Thanks,
