  • Terminal Server License Problems

Hi guys, I wonder if anyone has any suggestions on this:

We have 2 servers, 1x SBS 2003 server and 1x Terminal Server 2000

The sbs box acts as the License server and we have 20 SBS 2003 CALs installed. For some reason over the last week the TS doesnt seem to be giving users permanent licences. So some users are now getting your license will run out in XX days.

It hasnt been a problem for the last year or so.

As i undestand it SBS 2003 cals have built-in TS cals so we dont need to install any TS cals.

The license server is installed and activated on the SBS box. I just cant understand what has happened. I have run through the MS Technet docs regarding SBS 2003 and TS 2000 server, and it is all setup correctly.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Ben

Please use this tool and output the report:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317592

Also, is thet clients using more then 20 CAL's? Did you change the license mode from user -> device / device -> user ?

          Re: Terminal Server License Problems

There are no new users. Looking at TS Lisensing on both servers it is showing:

          Product Type Total Available Issued
Existing 2000 Server CAL Token (per device) Built-in Unlimited Unlimited 9
Temp Licenses for 2000 Server (Per Device) Temp - - 13
Windows Server 2003 Per User CAL Token Retail 5 5 Not Applicable

I cant understand why it keeps issuing temp licences when there are unlimited 2000 CALs.

          Anyone understand?

          Cheers

The TS is 2003 no ? So, there is no use for Win2k CALs

The Domain Controller is SBS 2003 and the Terminal Server is 2000

              Cheers
