  • ts install mode

    hi

when i install a program i use install mode.
my question is, should i use it in all kind of program.
even those that users dont use.
    even an update?
even an upgrade of an application?

    thanks

    Re: ts install mode

I change the mode to "Install Mode" when installing applications and application updates. WSUS takes care of patches and I don't think needs to be changed to install mode as it's not making any changes to the user hive.

If the application your installing is called set-up.exe then I'm pretty sure it automatically changes the server to install mode before install the application. If you install applications through add/remove programs then it automatically places the server into install mode as well.

    Hope this helps

Yes, Definately when installing apps / application upgrades. Not too sure about patches but I would advise doing it anyways.

Yes users should be logged off and always change to install mode.
Also it's not a pain to do this.

Change login /disable (or /enable of course) can help you to make sure no users can login. This can be very handy when you use multiple TS servers with a NLB environment.

            Re: ts install mode

As a rule I always change to install mode, install the application, change back to execute mode and then reboot the server
