  • Unable to do Remote Access to the Server

    Recently I had just installed a new server HP DL 380 G4 with W2K3 R2 SP2.

When I tried to connect to the server by using Remote Desktop Connection from my desktop(Win XP SP2), A window popup with the title "Remote Desktop Disconnected".

I had done the below to the server but the error message still exists:

    - allowing remote desktop
    - restarted the Terminal Services

Both server and desktop is connected to the same domain.
I am able to ping the server IP address and yet not able to remote access to it.

This is my first time installing a server.
Please assist in solving the problem above.
    Thank you

Re: Unable to do Remote Access to the Server

Well, now you know why it wasn't working ...
As I see it, you have two more things to do:
              1) enable the firewall back and enable RDP on it;
              2) show your appreciation to the user that helped you solve the problem by giving him reputation points. Since you cannot give DYasny reputation points yet (because you're too short on posts), I'll do that for you.

              Good luck!

Re: Unable to do Remote Access to the Server

How do I enable the RDP?
Can you please show me how?

Re: Unable to do Remote Access to the Server

From the server itself, go to Start > Settings -> Control Panel -> Windows Firewall.
To enable the Firewall, on the General tab of the window that just opened, check the On radio button (and see that the Do not allow exceptions checkbox is not checked).
Move to the Exceptions tab and there check the checkbox beside the Remote Desktop. If you want to control who can connect through RDP, then click Edit, then Change Scope in the new window. Follow there the instructions regarding how are IP addresses entered.
Click OK few times (untill all the windows are closed) and that's all.

                  Good luck.

Re: Unable to do Remote Access to the Server

I think if you are on the domain and are using hardware firewall, you probably better of disabling windows firewall.
I know that on DC's it's not recommended to have it running.
                    I might be wrong though...
