  • citrix - session reliability keeps crashing

    hello everyone

we are administering a citrix farm and are facing the following problem:

whenever we enable "session reliability" the server storing the farm's database has the problem that the xte.exe is crashing. as a result all user sessions on the server are reset and the users need to log on again. the following error message is showing in the eventlog:

failing application xte.exe Version 4.5.0.64631, failing modul unknown, Version 0.0.0.0, Fehleradresse 0x00000060.

when we keep session reliabilty disabled, the server runs stable. however, users with flaky internet connections still need to log back on several times a day because their connection to the server just drops away. therefore, we would like to keep the session reliablity feature enabled.

all servers are running windows 2003 r2 and citrix presentation server 4.5 and are configured in the same manner. windows has been patched to the latest level and the following citrix hotfixes have been installed:

    rollup pack PSG450W2K3R01
    PSG450R01W2K3033
    PSG450R01W2K3035

has anyone had this issue before and solved it?
or does anyone know how to troubleshoot this issue as the error message "failing modul unknown" is not very helpful?

if more information is required, please let me know. thx

    How are users connecting remotely?

We use Secure Gateway in a DMZ with ports 2598 forwarded to each PS server internally. We also had to install SGE300W008 on the secure gateway boxes.

      hi

users connect via ica-connections configured within the citrix program neighborhood.

Are they connecting from your network of externally from home? To use program Neighbourhood they must be on your network.

they are connecting from outside (home, work, etc.) and are then being permitted through the firewall.
all they get from us is the server name which is registered in dns and an instruction on how to configure the ica connection.

            OK, gotcha now.

Stupid question but have you rebooted the servers since enableing session reliability?

Have you also tried using the latest version of the citrix client?

not a stupid question. u never know what numpty is servicing the machines...

all servers have been rebooted after enabling this option. session reliabilty does not become active until all servers within the farm have been rebooted. all customers are using either version 10.150 or 10.200 of the presentation server client.

Re: citrix - session reliability keeps crashing

Were these servers always running 4.5 or were they upgraded from a previous version?

I once experienced similar problems after an upgrade.

Re: citrix - session reliability keeps crashing

It was a matter of DLL files that hadn't been upgraded properly - Citrix installers always sucked. I had to copy over dll files from working servers and everything was fine - dont think this is your case though.

                      Hi,

The two sources for this issue as I know:

                      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924806

and bad Antivirus... Try to uninstall the Antivirus and reapply the settings.

                            hi

thx for ur reply. no, we do not have that hotfix installed. we do not use secure gateway and are not doing automatic load balancing. this is for several reasons.

users are given a server name and are configuring a custom ica connection.
all connections are going through a firewall (only port 443 is open) directly to the individual servers.

                              Hi,

Can you provide more details on this firewall and the SSL? How you published the SSL etc.
Why you dont using Citrix load balance? Is the Citrix reside in unique VLAN as it should?
