  • Keyboard freeze at the end of RDP session

    Hi wizards,

First time stuff like this is happen to me..
At the end of RDP session (while I'm ending the session by disconnect or by logging off), the server's keyboard freezes (while the mouse works properly). This means that I can't do nothing but restarting the workstation. I can restart it by pressing the restart (physical) button or by connecting again via remote desktop and restarting from there.
How can I reset the keyboard or the terminal services settings?? Maybe somehow in registry?
    The both OS are WinXp.

    Thanks,
    Alex.

    DUH?
    What "both" are XP?
The machine you are connecting to and the keyboard freezes is also XP?

Please provide more info about the set-up you have:
    - the machine you connect to, what OS (including SP)?
    - the machine you connect from, same as above;
    - what RDP version are you using?
    - does it happen from more than one machine, or always from the same one?

    Thank you.

      Thanks Sorin,

Only machine that I'm trying connect to freezes after session's ending.

      Here are more info:
      - connect to: WinXP SP2
      - connect from: WinXP XP2 (same)
      - RDP: how I know which version is? It's a standard WinXP's mstsc command. No upgrades.
      - It's happen after connecting from any machine, every time.

browsed on the net, and there's no similar article at all.

So after disconnecting from RDP your local keyboard stops functioning? Eitherway, local or remote since you still have your mouse you can do something...

Using your mouse, right click on my computer -> click properties -> hardware tab -> device manager button, to open the device manager and then uninstall/remove the keyboard by right clicking it and clicking uninstall from the context menu. Once it's gone, then scan for hardware changes and let it reinstall.

I've had something similar happen to me before and doing this usually fixes it.

          Ahinson,

After disconnecting the state is either locked (if I'm disconnecting) or at the "press ctrl+alt+del" screen (if I'm logging off).. so, in both states I need the keyboard healthy..

note: the keyboard freezes at the machine I'm connecting to (the server).

Let me get this straight: the problem is on your side? Meaning, if someone's on the server's keyboard, it does work?

I think we have here lack of communication (or It's just my english)..
              I'll tell the whole story:
I'm have desktop and laptop. Sometimes I'm work from home with my laptop and connects to my workplace's desktop remotely.
Every following morning I need to restart my desktop because his keyboard doesn't response. For the check - I connected to my desktop remotely from another machines, and every time that I was disconnected, my desktop's keyboard didn't responded.
Hope that my problem was understood now))

                Now it's much clearer.
                I never encountered this issue.
Have you checked the Event log on the office computer?

                    There a few known issues:

                    1. Bad display driver.
                    2. Some third party product create this issue (like AV).
                    3. Old BIOS etc.
