  • Disconnect due to an error in data encryption

We have 2 Windows 2003 Terminal Servers that are loadbalanced using 2XLoadBalancer. We run a call center where users log on to TS to get their work desktop. Recently they have been getting the error: "Because of an error in data encryption, this session will end." They are able to reconnect to the disconnected session. This problem occurrs randomly. Microsoft (and others) suggest deleting certain registry keys under : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\TermService\Parameters the Certificate, x509 Certificate and x509 Certificate ID.

We have done this, but the keys are recreated somehow and the problem continues. It is unclear if it returned when the keys were recreated or if deleting them didn't help (the call center is 24hours and the reports from users are often not clear).

Has anyone seen and succefully solved this problem? Client computers are Windows 2000 Pro running RDP 5.2

    Hi,

First, try to use the latest RDP client.
Second, backup the registry keys and delete it acording to:

Re: Disconnect due to an error in data encryption

Thanks for your response. The MS article is the one I followed that was noted in my original post. This morning, following another TechNet article. We ran through the process again, only with all TS activity shutdown, we deactivated the TS Licensing server and reactivated it by telephone (per the article). All clients received a new MSLicensing key. However, the problem continues. Our users say that the error occurrs when they are on the Internet. I don't know how that could be relevant. We remain perplexed

        Hi,

For access from the internet you need a special license:

Please consider to move to Win 2008 and TS Gateway

Re: Disconnect due to an error in data encryption

Update. That article applies to Win2000 and all of our TS use is on our LAN from our call center. We are running Win2003 Terminal Servers.

The original problem , as of this morning seems to have subsided. In our last post I mentioned the overall redoing of the Licensing system and that the problem continued. Around mid day it stopped. I can't imagine why there would be a time delay. So, to continue to try and isolate the issuse, we divided our TS client machines into three groups. One on Terminal Server 1, one on Terminal Server 2 and the third on the LoadBalancer being distrubuted between the two. We are monitoring things today.

We are only connecting to the TS servers on the LAN.

Re: Disconnect due to an error in data encryption

Problem solved! Here is the answer I have found. I started thinking about network transmission problems rather than protocol issues. We had bought a new machine to be the 2XLoadbalancer. It came with a Realtek RTL8169.8110 Gigabit Ethernet NIC. I went to the card's advanced properties and disabled 802.1Q/1p VLAN Tagging, Offload Checksum and Offload TCP_Large Send. I don't know what these things actually do, but I had found articles describing problems people had with intermittent network failures. I also set the Link speed down to 100Mbps/Full Duplex because the workstations all are 100Mpb as are the switches to which they are connected (even though the 2X machine is in an unmanaged 1000Mbp switch). Since making these changes we have not received the encryption error.
