  • setting default printer in terminal services

Running Windows 2003 R2 Standard SP2 as OS
Terminal services is setup for 30 users connecting via VPN from 3 different locations around the country.
all of them running Windows XP pro sp2

All user accounts have been setup and are working , but I'm unable to setup a default printer, all profiles are roaming and any changes made during the users terminal server session are saved to the terminal server.

When I logon through a terminal server session, go to printers, all printers have been setup and installed and are there, but if I rightclick and try to select a default printer it just does nothing.

Is there something that I'm missing when creating the users profile under Active directory users and computers?
Under environment - client devices looks like this:
connect client drives at logon - checked
connect client printers at logon - checked
default to main client printer - unchecked

They are all member of administrators

Check the "default to main client printer" setting. This will set the clients default local printer as the default printer in their TS session.

checked the "default to main client printer" setting, logged on as client, but still unable to set the default printer, could it not be permissions? they are all members of administrators group and have full rights.

Did you setup in the past GPO for TS?

        http://www.computerperformance.co.uk...oup_policy.htm

Is there an option to the users may have a few copies of roaming profile?

Why to use roaming profile and not using folder redirection?

Re: setting default printer in terminal services

          Hi,

GPO has never been setup, only ever gone into rdp settings , they have a profile under Documents and Settings (terminal server)when their acc is created and share a profile based on the location they are at, also on the terminal server -
eg: \\terminal server\profiles\EL terminal server , all users in this location use the same profile.

All terminal server users access the same software located on the terminal server and dont really make any changes to their profile so dont really need folder redirection.

          Thanks

"all users in this location use the same profile" -

If you combine this information and the information in the past that each user
is a local administrator, this will create a nice problems like:

One user change the default printer to the other user that logon and use the updated
            profile etc.
