  • How to overcome Print spooler Crash

My Citrix server is acting weird. Its Print Spooler service terminates sporadically. Event Logs shows "Print Spooler service terminated unexpectedly" Event ID 7031 is logged in Windows Event Logs. Our Users get their printers mapped from the Citrix box. What could cause this and where to look?

    Thanks
    Sami

    Hi,

Do you use a printer driver signed by MS and its the latest version? What type of printers/OS/Hotfixes etc. install on this server?

Some of them are signed by MS and some are not. Server is upto the latest M$ updates. HP, Brother, Lexmark network printers are installed on it. Amazing thing is, it was working all right and nothing changed at server side. Crashes happens with some certain users log on. All other are fine. Its been few days now, service didn't crashed so far.

Re: How to overcome Print spooler Crash

Please replace all the un-signed drivers with a signed one.
        For un-signed drivers use:

        http://www.printingsupport.com/mambo...d=56&Itemid=49

        or Generic printer driver.
If you are using HP drivers, dont install the add on services, just the driver on the server.

After it, remove the old driver from the server and restart the print spooler.

In case of using of WPF (XPS) from Microsoft, please consider to uninstall it for test.

Also, please exclude from the antivirus online scanner the spooler folder:

        C:\Windows\System32\spool etc.

If all this steps wouldnt help, please create a debug logging to the print spooler:
