  • Outlook over Citrix misbehaving

    Hi Guys,

I have a really strange problem. I have a 16 server Windows 2000 SP4 Citrix XP FR3 farm. I am wanting to upgrade the servers to Windows 2003, and have taken a server out of the farm and rebuilt it with Windows 2003 R2, and installed all the same applications, after adding it to the farm.

The majority of the applications work successfully, this includes Office 2000 and an in-house Access application. We use Exchange 2003 and deliver email to everyone with Outlook 2003 via Citrix.

Whenever I run Outlook through a Citrix session, be it a desktop, or published application, Outlook fails to start, and there are no events generated in any of the event logs, nor does it come up with the familiar 'Outlook failed to start' when it does start successfully via RDA or on the console. I don't know why it works via these two methods but not over an ICA client.

This has me stumped, and I was wondering if anyone out there had come across this sort of issue before.

    Kind Regards
    TK

Please consider to disable the cache mode of outlook and try again.
Also, please use latest hotfix for Citrix and Microsoft application.
Try also to install only outlook on a clean server.
btw, Citrix FP3 isnt supported today as I know, so you will need to move
to Citrix 4.5/5 or native Windows TS.

Yes I know that Metaframe is no longer supported, but it works, and I do plan to upgrade, and I started with the OS first.

Cache mode is never used within Citrix. I always disable it. Outlook was installed on a brand new rebuilt server. I do not think you can get any cleaner, unless I was to dust it with a feather duster :P I am running the latest Outlook 2003 patches.

We will do a small trick... Please add a user to local admin group on the server, reboot the server and try again... what
        happen?

Sorry it took me so long to reply, but I have been out of the office :P

Anyway, I have added the user to the local admin group, and it has no effect on Outlook.

It also made no difference to how Outlook runs locally on the console as admin, or as the user via RDP.

          Regards
