  • Redundant MS and CITRIX Licensing Server

    Dear forum,

    I have 4 MS+Citrix Terminal Server (TS1, TS2, TS3, TS4) and 2 DC (DC1, DC2).
I want to have redundant MS+Citrix Licensing Server.

    1. can i put MS+CITRIX licensing server in DC1 and DC2 for redundancy
    2. how do I verify which MS Terminal Server (TS) going to which MS Terminal Licensing Server (TLS)
    3. what will happen to user that was online with TS1, if the MS Terminal Licensing Server that TS1 connect to is suddenly down
    4. Is it best practice to have MS+CITRIX licensing server in DC1 and DC2, instead of combining it in TS1,2,3,4

Re: Redundant MS and CITRIX Licensing Server

You can install the Citrix license server on Win2003 cluster:

Alsim ic case of problem you may have a spare time to resolve the problem:

You can also install MS license server in Ent. mode and register the license via
    Active Directory.
However, I didnt see information how to setup cluster of MS cluster license server.

The MS license server can be located by GPO, Registry settings or Active Directory.
The Citrix license server find via Citrix server it it self.

Re: Redundant MS and CITRIX Licensing Server

I found several other option for redundant Citrix Terminal License Server

      OPTION 1
      1. Ensure the citrix license server was installed on server2.
      2. copy the file license_3747637643.lic from the backup share to c:\program files\citrix\licensing\myfiles.
      3. Open Regedit on server2 and find the following keys.
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters]
      "NV Hostname"="server2"
      4. Change the two keys to:
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters]
      "NV Hostname"="server1"
      5. Reboot server2
      6. Open your managment console (citrix) and point the farm license server settings to server2.

      OPTION 2
When you create more than one license server, you can either split the licenses between the two or have one server hold all the licenses and the other only hand out temps.

I am interested in OPTION 1.
-anyone in this forum ever try this solution
-can I have Citrix Terminal License Server both live in DC1 and DC2 by making license file to have the same
      "NV Hostname"="DC1"
-if I have 4x TS (TS1-4). Can I specify TS1&TS3 go to DC1 as its license server, and specify TS2&TS4 go to DC2
