  • Slow network file copy on NLB Terminal Server

    Hi All,

I hope you can help me with this issue on my recently implemented NLB Load Balanced cluster with Session Directory.

I have 2 x Terminal Servers setup as an NLB cluster

Both servers are only using one NIC for network traffic and cluster traffic

    NLB is setup as unicast

All servers are connected to a single GB switch

All servers are Server 2003 (Terminal Servers are Enterprise Edition)

    We have noticed the following:

Copying files from either terminal server to shares on other servers is instant

Copying files from shares on other servers to either terminal server is very slow (40MB file taking several minutes)

Copying files between folders on shares on remote servers from either terminal server is very slow (ie user 1 is in his/her terminal server session and copies files between share1 on the fileserver)

Copying files between folders on shares on remote servers from any non terminal server is instant (ie I connect to the console session of a server and copy files between folders on a share on a different server)

The behaviour is also the same for moving files.

There are no errors in any event logs, the network bandwidth is hardly touched when monitoring in Task Manager.

    Anyone experienced this ?

    Thanks

    Paul
