  • is auditing of file and folder actions possible in windows environment?

I have had a request to monitor all file and folder actions - in particular the moving of folders, on a windows based network.

Does anyone know if there are any tools to facilitate this?

The reason being is that a user keeps moving folders into other folders by accident, and it is causing big problems.

Thus they want to find out who is doing it!

    Yes, it can be done
    Two steps:
    1) enable auditing of object access in a group policy
    2) Turn on auditing of individual actions in the advanced security tab of files or folders

Auditing everything will generate a massive amount of log entries, and fill security logs quickly - better to limit both where you audit and/or who you audit
