  • How can I tell the last time a server was used

We have server owners with servers out there that are supposedly for development and testing" I am trying to find out if they are really being used. Does anyone know of a way to find out if servers are still be used? This is for both physical and virtual. (mostly virtual) I basically want to bark at the folks that are not using these servers but saying they are needed. If I have the proof that they are not being used then I have something to back me up.

Is there a tool or script of sorts??

If auditing is enabled, check the security logs for logon/logoff events.

send an email to the stakeholders, from your CMDB..
then, if no response, shut it down and wait
