  • How can I get Windows 2003 event alerts?

My question is.....I would like to setup Server 2003 Standard Edition to send me emails when certain events happen. Like when one of my users have 3 consecutive logon failures. I have a GPO in place to audit this but I'm looking for an automatic email notification so I don't have to review the logs all the time. Does the Standard Edition have this capability or do I need to use MOM or something like that???

Thanks and I apologize ahead of time if this is a dumb question.

    Re: Dumb Question

    Hi,

This is a perfectly good question which is addressed in windows 2008 (by being able to set e-mail notifications from the event viewr)
In windows 2003 though, without deploying any management or monitoring system this can be done with eventtrigger.exe and a VBS script (or BCmail.exe) as per this thread : http://forums.petri.com/showthread.p...t+notification
As mentioned in the thread though, just be aware of the events you want to set a trigger for as you might get floded with e-mails everytime an event is logged.
