  • Workgroup clients in SCCM 2007

    Hi,

Currently I am in testing environment of SCCM 2007. but moving towards implementation, Many clients are in Domain except few which are in workgroup. I guess Server locator Point (SLP) needs to be configured on site server for communication between Client to MP. and SLP must be published in WINS but can someone tell me what configuration is required if I dont want to Use WINS??
    Regards

    Ok..

Finally I configured WINS and Published my SLP servers IP to WINS with below command.

    netsh WINS server (enter)
    add name Name=SMS_SLP Endchar=1A rectype=0 ip={Staic IP of SLP}

    IT worked

I also tried LMhost file entry. but It DIDNT WORKED, client is not able to get Policies and Instructions from MP.

If say you SCCM server is holding the MP AND the SLP site SYSTEM ROLES , then you have to make the following
entries in the Lmhostfile if say 172.19.2.79 is ur SCCM SERVER ip.

    172.19.2.79 "MP_SLP \0x1a" #PRE
    172.19.2.79 "MP_513 \0x1a" #PRE

(where 513 is a site code)

I want to avoid using WINS so pls someone give me hint at least.
    Regards

      Hi,
      Try those settings in lmhosts:
      172.19.2.79 SMS_SLP #1A #PRE
      172.19.2.79 MP_<Your Site Code> #1A #PRE

nbtstat -R to reload the cache

      Client Discovery should work.

      Best regards.
