  • Push Client Install - Didn't Work

    Hi System Administrators,

I'd like to seek for your help on my problem. I have a primary site and all discovered machines are placed in ALL SYSTEMS collection. When I pushed the client install from the SMS console, the system seems to be deploying. After few minutes the hour glass is finally finished but when I checked the collection, no clients are installed.

    I am using SMS 2003 SP2.

    Thank you in advance.

please check under system health what are the error messages. it could be a great number things, from not defining install account permissions and to not defining proper site bounderies.

This could take many days, depending how many clients you are trying to install. It installs a "Rolling Ten" of clients at once; i.e. it starts with ten, then replaces each one to finish with a new one. It doesn't stop until it's finished; however SMS decides for itself when to begin. Check in a few hours and you may find some installed clients.

          Hi Tom,

it is already 7th day but still no clients are installed. This is the story, I have an old primary site. I replaced this with new one. After copying the old settings from the old primary site, i was able to discover all machines from my collections. The problem is, when I push the clients it didn't install. But when I changed the SITE CODE from one of the machines, it was seen from the new primary site as advance client.

what do you think is the best solution for this?

          Regards,

Uninstall SMS and reinstall from scratch?

That's what I did. I install SMS from scratch that's why I have a new primary site.

Re: Push Client Install - Didn't Work

what i recommend is either running a script (thorugh GPO) that will auto-discover the site from the client, or just use a simpler script that runs ccmclean.exe and then re-install the client using CCM setup at next reboot.

I tried the second option countless times when i had to reinstall SMS site for some reason. worked great for me.

Thank you Sir Yanivfel for the reply.

I already placed this VBS on the GPO but still didn't rename the SITE CODE of the clients.

Do you have a sample script that you already used before that gave you a successful result?

BTW, what is CCM Setup, is that the same as ccmclean.exe?

Re: Push Client Install - Didn't Work

no. ccmclean is the exe that uninstalles the client agent while ccmsetup is the exe that installs the client agent.

i think you will find this useful:
