  • Prohibiting "disabling network cards on servers"

I need to prohibit the "disabling of network cards on the servers" in the domain. All the servers are placed in an OU and a GPO is linked to it. I couldn't find that option in the GPO. I'm using win2k3.

    Please help, thanks.

    Hi Leopard.

Some more information would be helpful.
What sort of rights do your users have ( are they "users" or "administrators") ?

I assume you have a Terminal Server and users using the server that way ?

The most simple way to prevent users from disabling hardware settings would be to give them only "user" rights.

Maybe if you describe your situation some more I can be of more assistance.

Look under Computer Settings, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Network (I don't have it in front of me, so I'm writing from memory, I could bbe wrong).

There are few settings regarding network coneections yes, but no possibilty to prevent users from disabling the nic (as one could do from Device Manager).
From what i gather that is what he is trying to accomplish.

To prevent users from disabling network connections:
User Configuration - Administrative Templates - Network - Network Connections - (here is lots of options to choose from)

Or to prevent users from using Control Panel :
User Configuration - Administrative Templates - Control Panel

Select either of the following options:
Enable connecting and disconnecting a LAN connection
Enable access to properties of a LAN connection

            Thank you for your replies.

The one thing I could find, is under User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Network Connections :
Ability to Enable/Disable a LAN connection

I'm editing this in the GPO that is linked to Server's OU, so, if I set this option to Disable, would it prohobit disabling the LAN cards on the servers no matter where the user/admin is logged on?
