  • Disable space bar for remote drives

    Hello,

    it is I, DarkMaster...again

So I was wondering - is it possible to disable the free space bar for remote drives with GPO settings? I have read some info on the Internet and found, that this is not actually possible per se - at least not in that way, that would disable the bar for remote drives only. So - I have no wish to go trough every option within GPO and...if someone know this thing - if it even works, I would be really glad for any input.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Disable space bar for remote drives

Well I did it my way...if anyone is interested how I did it:

GPO, new policy, linked it to Workstations OU then edited the settings as follows:
    Code:
computer configuration -> preferences -> windows settings -> registry

Then I added new regkey to be updated, the correct registry path is:
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Drive

and the key is TileInfo - change the default value from
    Code:
    prop:*System.PercentFull;System.Computer.DecoratedFreeSpace;System.Volume.FileSystem

    to
    Code:
    prop:*System.Computer.DecoratedFreeSpace;System.Volume.FileSystem

and voila - push the GPO policy to that OU and no more bars, just simple info on the drives - tested it myself on Windows 2008 R2 domain and the Windows 7 clients (no idea how it would impact the Windows XP clients).

    Good luck!
