  • Controlling W7 via 2003 GPO

    Hi guys,
I need to controll windows 7 PC's firewall policies via Server 2003. Is there some sort of custom GPO for this? Any help will be much appreciated.

    Hi,

You won't be able to manage firewall with adv features on win7 however you can give this a try.
log on to win 7 with your domain adm account. Instal RSAT tools enable GPMC, create Win7 firewall policy on that machine, under ADUC create one ou move all your win7 machine into that ou, addditionally you can use security filtering based on group to narrow down the application of the GPO, apply the policy on the OU.

    Hope this works for you
    Thanks & Regards

Interesting! I thought there would be a template created for this!

There are some Firewall settings in the Starter GPOs container that may be of interest. It is also worth googling regarding windows 7 Starter GPOs.

Bear/beer/bare/bair? in mind that Windows Server 2003 is now approaching its 8th birthday. If you put Server 2008 or even better Server 2008 R2 into a DC role then you should have the added GPs that come with the newer O/S to do what is required.
