  • xp (32bit): shortcut start in program files(x86)

    Hi,

I have a problem with the properties of a shortcut.

We assign an application to a user by gpo.
When the application is first assigned the
"start in" of the shortcut points to c:\program files\application

When the user reboots the machine and logs on again the shortcut changes.
the "start in" of the shortcut points then to c:\program files(x86)\application

The log shows that the application is assigned again, which is correct.

This happens on xp (32bit) machines.

The application worked fine when we used a Windows 2003R2 (32bit)/xp (32bit) environment.

    We migrated to Windows 2008R2 (64bit)/XP (32bit).
After the migration the problem began.

    Any clues?

    Thanks in advance

    Dennis

Is there a problem launching the app if the "start in" is Program files (x86) ?

Why would you like it to be just Program Files?

Unless you're on a 64 bit OS, you don't have the "Program Files(x86)"

Assuming what he's trying to get to launch is on his XP machines which are 32 bit, they wont launch as they are in the "Program Files" folder, not "Program Files(x86)"

The problem is that the "program files(x86)" doesn't exist.

The program does start but doesn't function properly because of the
"start in" of the shortcut which points to c:\program files(x86)\application

I'm trying to find out why the setting of "start in" is changed when the user reboots the machine.

It seems to be a problem with the migrated gpo.
With a new gpo, which looks identical (same settings), the problem doesn't exists...
