  • Where to change GPO settings

I'm trying to understand why I'd make a setting change in one location over the other. Say I want to allow ActiveX controls to run for trusted sites. I can open the GPO -> User Configuration\Windows Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenance\Security\Security Zones and Content Ratings -> Trusted Sites -> Custom level. Or I can go to User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel\Security Page\Trusted Sites Zone.

    Which is better? Thanks.

    They do two different things
First defines the security settings for the trusted sites zone
Second allows you to add / remove sites from the zone

(Note I am not in front of a DC at this precise moment so this is from memory)

In the second location, I get a window that looks like the Security tab in Internet Options. If I click "Custom level...", I see many (if not all) of the same settings as in the longer path.
