  • Upgrading Software to OU group

    Hi !
I have Sap Bussiness one Installed in my OU.
I want to Upgrade the Currrent Client with a new one .
I'm not so sure about how to do it using GPO .
and when I try to use the setup I'm forced to do Uninstallation of the previous version.
When I'm Using the Sap Client directly it uninstalls inself after it finds out it's out of date
but that requires Admin / Power user Prev. that my Users don't have So I have to Do it manually
    Is that a better way
the client setup has a Setup.exe / MSI
but the Setup.exe switches didnt really help alot .

    THanks !

Re: Upgrading Software to OU group

you may need to check the setup file, or the msi file, and see if maybe it has appropriate flags (ie /upgrade or /upg) to upgrade rather than uninstall and reinstall..

    otherwise, you could:
    1) create a GPO, enforcing the removal of the current version then
    2) force the policy to apply at, say, 6:00pm, and all the software be removed then
    3) create a NEW gpo, enforcing installation of the new version, which will run at boot time...

        yea - try setup /?
also - ask the vendor of the appliation.. i'm sure it's occured before, they may even have a knowledge base..

Re: Upgrading Software to OU group

          Ok !
So I followed the files on the File Mon.
and when I open up the software on the Admin Rights the installation files are being copied to the source computer and another program called Upgrade.exe
So I did a VBS script that copies the files to the computer.
and tried calling the Upgrade.exe file
          but nothing really happens.
I mean I assume the file is being Run 'cos I Have a Msgbox I entered Saying "Done"
It's just not Uninstalling / Reinstalling Properly
Maybe it needs actual Screen output and cannot be run in the background. is there a way to over come that?
/? didn't help just runs the program usually.

          Thanks !
