  • Local GPO vs. Domain GPO

When would one configure a Local GPO as oppose to a domain GPO? If all PC's are in a domain environment wouldnt it be eaiser to configure and deploy Domain GPO?

Re: Local GPO vs. Domain GPO

    Correct.

Domain GPO's are easier to manage, as it's all done centrally.

People only use local GPO's if they need to overide something, or simply because they are not in a domain environment.

Otherwise, it's common practice to carry out the GPO changes via the domain.

Also note that, in an AD environment, local policies (if used) are much more likely to be over-ridden
(the acronym is LSDOU -- local policies applied first, then site, domain and OU level ones -- last applied normally wins)
