  • Deploying MSI files on differences architectures

    Hi there,

Is there any way to deploy via group policy an x64 MSI file to a x64 OS? Does Group Policy know the differences?

If i have all kind of OS on my company how to tell the group policy distribute the right MSI to the right OS?

I have all kind of OS like WinXP x86 and x64, Windows 7 x86 and x64 and all versions of WinSVR 2003 & 2008.

    Thank U!

There are two ways you can do this I can think of.

One would be to divide the computers into OU based on their architecture. and then apply the x64 Msi on the OU with computers with x64 os installed.
    and so on.
If however you are using a flat structure (all objects in one container), you could use two separate GPO and use the appropriate WMI filter.

    For XP

    Code:
SELECT * FROM Win32_OperatingSystem WHERE Caption='Microsoft Windows XP professional'

    and

    Code:
    SELECT * FROM Win32_OperatingSystem WHERE Caption='Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP professional x64 edition'
    and for Vista and above

    Code:
    Select * from Win32_OperatingSystem where OSArchitecture = "32-bit"
    and

    Code:
    Select * from Win32_OperatingSystem where OSArchitecture = "64-bit"
    Ta

        Yes.

Give it a go on a test OU first, and then run Gpupdate on the client and gpresult to see the filtered results.

Re: Deploying MSI files on differences architectures

When i was 7 or 8 years old I didn't knew English very well. This one day I watched "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". In that episode Splinter called Rafael "Rafael Son". My internet nickname at the time was "dante_9" and I needed a change so I called my self "LiorSAN" instead of "Lior Son". I just stuck with that one...

You got to love the english laguage don't you, It can be interpreted in so many ways (Biggles77 current Signature is an example)

The explanation about your nick is quite interesting, my kids love TMNT too, but I was in fact referring to the Link you posted.

                Cheers
