  • Disable access to system clock properties

    Hi,

I couldn't find an item under GPO to block user's access to the properties of system clock while displaying it at system tray. Couldn't any one of you teach me how to do this please?

    Thank you in advance.

Re: Disable access to system clock properties

    Hi,

By default in XP, only administrators and power users can change the date, time, or time zone.
Are your users members of any of the above groups or have you granted the Change system time user right to them?

Yes, the users are administrators to the PCs they used. If this is the case, how can i do to prevent them from accessing the property of system clock?

Modify the Change System Time user right to e.g. Domain Admins only

Just to expand a bit on Ossian's suggestion.

In a GPO edit the following setting:

Computer Configuration - Windows Settings- Security settings- Local Policies - User right assignments and define Change the system time setting

Apply the policy to the computer objects in question.

P.S. Am not going to go over this too much as it is a different topic but it's not good security practice to have users as local admins.

Yes, we know it's not a good idea to have users as local admins, but for those machines we have to have them as local admin to run the machine software so that we can capture those machine data.
