  • Troubleshooting 1202 Events

I've searched high and low for a solution to this issue for W2k3. What I have found thus far is for W2k or it doesn't address "0xd".

OS: Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise
    Event Source: SceCli
    Event Type: Warning
    Event ID: 1202
Event Description: Security policies were propagated with warning. 0xd: The data is invalid.

This information is displayed in the winlogon.log at the approximate time that the Event 1202 occurs:

Error 13: The data is invalid.
    Error converting \\<servername>\D$
Error 13: The data is invalid.
    Error converting \\<severname>\<sharedfoldername>
Error 13: The data is invalid.
    Error converting \\<severname>\d$\<foldername>

The above messages are repeated several times with different server names, different drives and different folders.

This is occurring on all our servers in the domain, including the DCs.

Can someone tell me what is going on and how to fix this? Our SE is doing a lot of stuff and causing numerous errors/warnings in our Event Logs and he wants us (me) to correct them because he supposedly doesn't have time. I am pretty much a novice at W2k3 so be gentle. Learning a lot though cleaning up behind this jerk.

Any other Userenv events logged? also can you check the Userenv log.
Can you actually access these UNC paths whilst logged on, do they exist?

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

There isn't a userevn.log being created. I will attempt to rectify this situation but I may encounter resistance.

Yes, the folders do exist and I can access them.

        Re: Troubleshooting 1202 Events

I want to share with you the resolution for this issue just in case someone else encounters the same problem.

I found an article after Googling "0xd" again, where a gentleman indicated he ran upon the same issue and it was a policy within the File System. There were several invalid variables listed with the wrong UNC. Corrected the UNC and all is well.

        Thanks Gary Busby!
