  • Issue with GPO

I have created a install script of office 2007 in my domain> i worked for some users and for others i got various error messages.
    Some were

You cannot run more that one Setup of office at once.
    setup failed.

Or the splash screen would start and then the update would never happen.

Turned out that i had to run my batch script locally and the installation worked fine.

even more strange is this.. one some of the PC that failed i noticed security object errors 560 so i removed the pc from the domain and then re added it to the domain and like magic the PC took the policy and installed perfectly.

What is going on that it would have to refresh in the domain for the PC to take the policy? is there a security setting i am missing?
please help i have to deploy to 100 people... thanks

windows 2k3 sp2 R2 environments with xp sp3 on desktops

      Re: Issue with GPO

How on earth would a link to use ZAP files (to install non-MSI applications) help with installing a Microsoft application (which uses an MSI file)?

Mlabs, please post your script and ALL the errors you get (in full), plus anything from the event logs

        Mlabs,

Have a look at this thread to see if it helps: http://forums.petri.com/showthread.p...126#post162126
Make sure there are no other conflicting or interferring GPOs though.

          Re: Issue with GPO

my script is similar to this installation .. i have created the msp and the transform files. th eonly difference i could not get the bat to launch properly from the GPO so my script is copying the batch file locally to C:temp then deploying it. It works for some but not for all. i did not put any run as admin switches since everyone is a local admin on thier PC and the account it was using for absentees is a domain admin account. I will post the script shortly as i dont have access to it currently.

          any thoughs would be appreciated.

PPS it worked flawlessly in a virtual environment.

            Re: Issue with GPO

Here is a batch sample for installing Office 2007 by a startup script.
            http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc179134.aspx

Is the setup-batch that you copy to the client, the actual startup-script or is the setup-batch launched from within the startup script? That could be the cause the installation being terminated. The startup scripts should be configured to run asynchronously on every client for this.

Secondly, Are you using loopback processing? Because that could explain why the Office setup is launced more than once during startup. (http://forums.petri.com/showthread.php?t=36067)
