  • Default Domain Password Policy

I built a root-child Domain environment a while back (1 DC for each domain) I haven't applied any GPO's to either machine and I was wondering why the default password policy is different on the Root DC compared to the Child DC. Both servers are Windows Server 2003.

The Root DC has the following password policy:
Enforce password history 24 passwords remembered
    Maximum password age 42 days
    Minimum password age 1 days
    Minimum password length 7 characters
Passwords must meet complexity requirements Enabled
Store passwords using reversible encryption Disabled

The Child DC has the following password policy:
Enforce password history 0 passwords remembered
    Maximum password age 42 days
    Minimum password age 0 days
    Minimum password length 0 characters
Passwords must meet complexity requirements Disabled
Store passwords using reversible encryption Disabled

I thought that all domain controllers took on the same default settings as what my Root DC is currently showing. Can somebody explain to me what is going on here?
