      Re: WSUS, Nested Computer Groups

      This is not windows groups, this is computer groups in WSUS -- an altogether different beast.

      From WSUS 3 help:
      To enable client-side targeting through Group Policy

      Open Group Policy Object Editor, expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Windows Components, and then select Windows Update.

      In the Details pane, double-click Enable client-side targeting.

      Click Enabled, and then type the name of the computer group in the Target group name for this computer box. You can specify multiple target groups, separating the names with semicolons.

      Click OK.

        Regards,
        oh yes, i know, but this is the problem.

        in WSUS, if you have your groups nested like..

        London
        -> Web Servers
        -> 2000
        -> 2003
        -> Application Servers
        -> Database Servers

        LAX
        -> Web Servers
        -> Application Servers
        -> Database Servers

        for example

        you have to specify the group name in the GPO. You have to make them unique, even if they are nested. So I had to make the sub groups LAX Web Servers.
