  • lock idle workstations after set of time if inactivity

    Hello all,
    I have win2k3 R2 standard edition.
I want to set a GPO Policy that will lock idle workstations after set of time if inactivity.
Notice that I don't mean locking the User / Workstation with screen saver, but like the option with : ctrl+alt+del>lock
    Hope I was clear.
    Need help ASAP.
    Thanks ahead,
    Boris Reuven.

This command will lock a workstation, the *proper* way that you want:

    %windir%\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

So, we now need to put this in a script and then make it take effect after a period of inactivity. So let's tell our screensaver to use this script as it's file, note I am NOT using the screensaver to "lock" the screen, I am using the screensaver to run this script after a period of inactivity so that it *properly* locks the computer.

I have not tested it, but I think you can look in User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Display and there you can set the screensaver settings, telling the screensaver to use the above script as its "executabe name".
    Best wishes,
    PaulH.
