  • Disable Address Bar in IE7 via GPO

I need to lock down a machine used for a Kiosk in the breakroom. I want the address bar to go away. I can't find a setting within IE7 options nor with a GPO. I'm quite sure IE6 gave me this option.

    Thank you
    Deborah

    Hi Deborah,

    Welcome to the forum.
You say the GPO did apply in IE6 - is it a computer or user config? Maybe I am tired, but I cannot see anything which relates to the address bar being removed or blocked.

Download and install the IE7 Admin Templates and see if there is a setting in there for what you want. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Thanks, I have those tools and didn't find anything there. I thought it possible I was missing it but now that I've scoured the options, it's not there.

I'm going to plan B and filter all web access, except the sites pertaining to the intranet. Thanks for responding.

Re: Disable Address Bar in IE7 via GPO

Simon, I'm not sure! I know with my other Kiosks, which run with IE6, the address bar if gone. I configured those almost a year ago and part of the lock down came locally, tweaking IE's settings and part with GPs.
But IE 7 is a booger.
I tried opening in full screen only but once the curser is moved up toward the top, the address bar appears.
I need web access to about a dozen sites while rest are blocked. My next approach is with my web filtering software, see if I can get something going there.
Thanks for the welcome. This seems like a forum that actuallyy HELPs people.

You may be able to lock down IE7 with the IEAK7 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...7/default.mspx

              Jeremy,
              Man, that was some install.
I ran it on my practice box here but everything I saw with the config settings were already in GPOs. It's pretty cool, though, for someone who didn't use Group Policy because you can create different packages based on what features you want to implement.
              Thanks for the tip.
