    greetings!
    i'm hosting our website using windows 2008 r2

    working fine until someone told me that its not pointing to the correct site if they use type the domain name from the browser

    if they use - www.company.com - it works fine
    but if they use - company.com - it not working (connection time out)

    any guidance? thanks

    The A record for your domain is not pointing to the ip address of your web server.

    It's not a requirement, but if you want http://company.com and http://www.company.com to point to your web server then you need to have:

    an A record for the domain that points to the ip address of your web server

    AND

    a CNAME or A record for WWW that points to the ip address of your web server

      You just need a simple 301 redirect from company.com to www.company.com

        toona, Yes, a redirect would work, if there was already a dns-registered A Name, pointing to the correct IP address.
        In which case, why would you even need a 301 at all, just have the site answer on both hostnames ?
