  • Removing old DNS entries

    Hi....

For some reason there are old dns entries for machines which are no longer part of the network. And so some workstations are being picked up by network scanning with the wrong name.

Is there a way that old dns entries are automatically removed? If not then I guess its ok to go in and delete them?

    Thanks

    Is this Windows DNS?
If so, try "scavenge stale resource records"

You can delete them without risk

Great, I thought I could delete them. Ideally I dont want them there in the first place so I shall check out the scavange jobby.

      Thanks again!

        Re: Removing old DNS entries

Just a reminder, you need to enable scavanging on both dns server and dns zone. Also it will take 7 + 7 + 7 days = 21 (that can be tweaked) days before it will be removed from the dns zone

But give this a read, nice article
