  • How to update DNS records on WinXP

I had to change the IP on one of our Windows 2K3 servers and I lost DNS resolution of the server from my workstation. For example, I VI client to the (VMWare) server, changed its IP and could no longer ping it from my workstation, where I could before the IP change.

I checked DNS on the DC server and it's defined OK there, but when I ping from my workstation, I do not get an IP resolution.

After about one hour, my workstation is able to resolve the server by its new IP address.

Is there a way to get DNS from the server to the workstation any quicker?

I tried IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS and /REGISTERDNS but they didn't make a difference. Thanks.

Re: How to update DNS records on WinXP

Try running "IPCONFIG /REGISTERDNS" from the server with the changed IP
Delete the old record on your DNS servers then "update server data files"
"IPCONFIG / FLUSHDNS" on your workstation
