  • Manual delete of old DC DNS properties in DNS server

    Hi All,

I've just succesfully demote my old DC let say DC1 and now all of the role is on DC2, but when I browse around the DNS entry I still found out the old DC trace in:

    Forward Lookup Zones
    domain.com
    _msdcs
    dc
    _sites
    Default-First-Site-Name
    _tcp

The example of the key entry type:
    _ldap
    _kerberos
    _sipinternaltls
    _kpasswd
    _gc

    pointing into the old dc1 address.domain.com ?

can i manually go through the DNS and delete it manually one by one ?

    Thanks.

Yes, you should be right to do this.

However - take a look at the MS knowledge article on "cleaning up NTDS meta data"

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216498

I know it says it's for an unsuccessful demotion, however this article should guide you through other places you will need to check for remaining data just to be sure..
