  • DCHP issue with SBS 2003

We have a 25 user SBS2003 system. Has been working fine for many years. Last week one of the older systems started reporting "limited or no connectivity" and was unable to connect to the network. We changed the network cable, moved the cable to a different router port, even went so far as to disconnect another system and swap the location of the systems. The result was that the working system moved to the location of the non working worked and the non working system moved to the working location did not work. This pretty much elliminated router/cable issues. Given the system was old we replaced it with a new one. When we connected the new system, same issue. Since that time 3 more systems have failed, all with "limited or no connectivity". We did resolve the issue by manually inserting the IP info. We looked at the DCHP server, noted the address that was assigned to the client then change the client TCP/IP properties to use that addess/subnet * dns. All 3 systems now work. It seems that once the current DCHP IP lease expires it is not being renewed.
    Any thoughts would be appriciated

have you restarted the DHCP service ?
    Have you looked for errors?
Have you validated the DHCP database?
have you run a capture and observed when happens when you try the DHCP process?

In short, apart from determining it's (probably) a dhcp problem - have you done anything to determine what the dhcp problem is ?

Re: DCHP issue with SBS 2003

A long shot, but could the SBS have been upgraded from SBS 2000 which (IIRC) had a 25 user limit and may have persisted. The behaviour has that sort of feel to it.
(Yes, I know SBS 2003 has a 75 user limit, hence the upgrade question)
