  • DHCP serve giving the Negative acknowledgement.

    Hi Team,
    Please my find query, bear with my english.. help me to find where i exactly did the wrong....
    I have configured the Testing LAB on Vmware workstation to test the DHCP relay agent configuration.
    This LAB contains 3 systems.
    · One is Domain Controller with DHCP, DNS services installed. Configured with below IP address.
    o Ip: 192.168.1.2\24, default gateway 192.168.1.1. and Preferred DNS : 192.168.1.2

    · Second one is also a Server is configured as Router, Configured with below IP address.
    o NIC1: 192.168.1.1\24
    o NIC2: 192.168.2.1\24
    Configured the router and checked by configuring the static ip on the client as 192.168.2.9, successfully got the ping reply from the server (Domain Controller).
    · Third one is a client system installed with XP SP2 professional operating system. Configured as Obtain an IP address automatically.

    1. Configured DHCP server with scope range 192.168.1.10 - 20, DHCP server successfully given the ip to Client System. For time being disabled.

    2. Now configured with scope range with 192.168.2.0 network, the range is 192.168.2.10 – 20, Configured the DHCP Relay agent on the Router successfully.
    When configured the client obtain IP address automatically, Client system not getting ip from the DHCP server, but in the DHCP console it’s showing on the scope of 192.168.2.10 – 20, in the Address Leases, one IP released to the client. But client keep on trying to get the IP address…
    Found the below error logs from the client

    Description:
    The IP address lease 0.0.0.0 for the Network Card with network address 000C293BDDCC has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.2 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

    Found the below error logs from the dhcp server.

    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 30022
    Date: 8/24/2011
    Time: 4:44:27 PM

    Computer: NODE2
    Description:
    IPBOOTP was unable to receive an incoming message on the local interface with IP address 192.168.2.1. The data is the error code.

    Data:

    Please help me in getting this resolved.
    Please let me know if my query is not understandable or other logs required to troubleshoot this issue.

    Im not sure how your router configuration looks like and where your client is located.
    I assume you expect a .2.x address yet it seems not being processed well.

    If it's a Windows Router (which you should shoot immediately ) did you confirmed you enabled DHCP and not BootP? Not sure if it can be configured since I rather won't use it.

      And I have left with one doubt

      So, you meant to say, it won't support for the DHCP relay agent service


      Yes, it's a Windows router and I configured my lab environment, set up with Vmware workstation..

      I have configured the Router service in windows server 2003 R2 Enterprize server.

        Well you can use the DHCP relay service, but I simply don't like the Windows router service
