  • Unable to transfer Schema Master Role

Can someone help me with this? I am trying to retire one of my DCs

Old DC - Schema Master and Domain Naming Master, also the Global Catalog

New DC - RID, PDC, Infrastructure

When I try to transfer the Schema Master from Old DC to New DC I get this error:

"The requested FSMO operation failed. The current FSMO holder could not be contacted. The transfer of the current Operations Master could not be performed."

Any Ideas on what I can do? I got this message from using the GUI transfer.

Have you made the new DC a CG?
Got some nice articles for you to read on FSMO Roles. Well worth a look.

Silly question but are you a member of the Schema Admins?

If you can't do it by the GUI you can seize the role using ntdsutil
