  • Error GPMC: Cannot contact Domain Controller

    Hi Guys

I have a Windows 2000 Domain with 2 DC 2K SP4 (English Version), 1 Exchange 2003 SP2 (English version), and several W2K Pro last SP, and WinXP SP2 (english and spanish versions) with .NET Framework 1.1 installed (with the correct version of language).

I need to manage GPO using GPMC, but I get the following message "Cannot contact with the specified domain controller". But my PC is domain member, and I have a Domain Admin account.

Please, give any clue to solve this thing?

    Thanks

    JLP

GPO management tools by default are trying to connect to PDC Emulator FSMO role holder.
If from some reason, the FSMO role is not resolvable, you will get simmilar error.

What happens if you tell GPMC to connect to another DC in the AD ?

      Thanks Guy for the answer.

Well, in fact, both DC are running, one of them (DC1) is the PDC emulator, but the tools shows me no DC to contact.

Any way to configure GPMC in order to show my DC's?

Thank you again for your reply

Re: Error GPMC: Cannot contact Domain Controller

Try opening GPMC from one of the DCs.

Try opening a regular MMC, add the GPEDIT snap-in, and browse to one of the existing GPOs.

        Does this work for you?

In some rare cases you might have to reboot the DCs to fix issues like these.
