  • Can't add new 2K3 DC to existing domain- error message!

I have a WIN2K3 domain with 2 DC's. One is WIN 2K and the other is 2K3. It was originally 2K domain and I upgraded to 2K3 (adprep/domain prep etc) over a month ago with no problems. It let me add a 2K3 DC just fine. THe most recent thing I did was move all the Operations Master roles from the 2K DC to the 2K3 DC.

Now I am adding another 2K3 DC and having trouble. When I run DC promo I get the following error.

    "The operation failed because

The Active Directory installation requires domain configuration changes, but whether these config changes have been made on the domain controller servername is undetermined. The installation has quit.

    The parameter is incorrect."

No noteable event log messages to help. Has anyone seen this.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does dcdiag on both DCs come up clean ?
What does "repadmin /replsum" says when ran against W2K3 DC ?

Re: Can't add new 2K3 DC to existing domain- error message!

Something obviously got messed up at some point, perhaps when I moved the FSMO roles. I ran DCdiag before ADprep and after and all was fine. Things were stable for a coulpe of weeks and I moved the roles last week. Since then, I can't add another WIN2K3 DC. I had someone from another forum advise me to re-run Adprep/domain prep?

I just ran DCdiag on the WIN2K DC and got a lot of errors. They are:

you can try seizing all the roles back to the other dc, then try to promote the new one.
