  • cannot register to domain

hello all! I hope I'm in a right thread, if not please admin transfer this post into to the new tread.

    I'm new here!

hope everyone can help my problem.
when I register my workstation to AD using my domain name i got this error.

DNS was successfully queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain DOMAINTEST.LOCAL:

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.DOMAINTEST.LOCAL

The following domain controllers were identified by the query:

    matinaserver.dvo-matina.local

Common causes of this error include:

    - Host (A) records that map the name of the domain controller to its IP addresses are missing or contain incorrect addresses.

    - Domain controllers registered in DNS are not connected to the network or are not running.

For information about correcting this problem, click Help.

    Re: cannot register to domain

What records are registered for "matinaserver.dvo-matina.local" name in DNS ?
Can you ping the DC by that name/IP ?

Can you share the netsetup.log located under c:\windows\debug please ? It contains the detailed information about the domain join attempt.

i have a couple questions that may or may not apply to your situation... please entertain me.

are you using a custom setting .ini to join this computer? if so, go back and verify that there are no typos and that all passwords/user accounts are correct and that the accounts associated with them are unlocked. i have seen the same fail from missing simple syntax like spaces and quotes...

if you not using a script and you are manually typing the password, verify its the correct password. for kicks and giggles, can you dis-join a computer from the domain using the same account and password? just a thought...

secondly, whats the story with the drivers for the NIC? is the install coming from an image that may included not-so-perfect drivers? its not like a 10/100 using drivers for a 10/100/1000 intel proset by chance? had some weird errors that occured with improper drivers that PnP said were fine... changing them to the proper drivers solved the issue...

not saying that either of these scenarios are what are applicable to you, just possible.
its easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

No, I'm not using any script or any batch file for joining the domain. password and user name are all correct.
I create 9 user account, and i try those 9 account, but still with the same error.

can you dis-join a computer from the domain using the same account and password? just a thought...
I cannot try when dis-join those account, because its a fresh install of win2003 server. So, what i had to do, is join all client to domain.

secondly, whats the story with the drivers for the NIC?
no issue with my nic. I can ping from my client to server and vice versa.

is the install coming from an image that may included not-so-perfect drivers?
No, its a fresh install from windows 2k3 std ent r2.

thanks for your reply james. hope you can help me on this issue.

              thanks.
