  • Distribution Lists via OU

Does anyone know how I can set my AD / Exchange up so when users are added to certain OU's their membership of certain distribution groups changes.

We have a load of location based distribution groups and it would be good not to have to update users account settings constantly.

You could investigate restricted groups applied via OU level group policies, but really there is no connection between OUs and security groups

      Found it, here's how

      Log onto your Exchange server
      Open Exchange Management Console
Browse to Recipient Configuration> Distribution Group
Right Mouse> New Dynamic Distribution Group
Enter a name for the new group
      Next
Click Browse & set the OU you want to target
      Tick "Users with exchange mailboxes"
      Next
      Next
      New
      Finish

Hope this helps anyone else out.

We use a similar method with Dynamic DLs but work it on the users city field. When the logical access team move the user they update this field and the user automatically gets (or gets removed from) emails to the lists.
