  • AD + Linux DNS and AD DNS and Linux DNS

Sorry I am so not experienced in this part of the role.
    Scenario,
    2008 Active Directory win.thing.some.com.uk
Active Directory is using a DNS Linux (Zone) nameserver , which is also called win.thing.some.com.uk
    Active Directory best practice says
The Domain Name System (DNS) host resource records for this domain controller's fully qualified domain name currently map to the IP addresses that do not belong to this domain controller. The invalid IP addresses are IP (which is linux ns win.thing.some.com.uk)

    Our main network/VLAN is thing.some.com.uk
The linux DNS sys, dont want windows clients to dynamically update dns records, so hes telling dhcp to update dns records for them..

Hes a complete unix person and doesnt touch windows.
and he wants to know what the clients do (although just found this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc771255.aspx)

    Well, I'm just thinking,
Should I enable DNS on AD, so its integrated and I run the DNS server for all the windows clients that have joined the win domain, but I will need to do forwarders to the linux dns server...

And thats the thing, not sure how to do all this... and if thats the best thing to do...
I hope someone knows what im talking about because i dont.. =/

    thanks

I've no idea what your question actually is.

    But maybe this will help

Re: AD + Linux DNS and AD DNS and Linux DNS

Well, I want to move away from linux DNS and use the DNS service on the Domain Controllers... so it's integrated into AD.

But actually wondering if this is the best way or just stay what I have now.

and have Forwarders in AD DNS, to Linux DNS... etc...

What's the "leftover" use then for the linux DNS servers?
Anyhow, you can easily implement DNS on the windows servers. Change the DHCP settings and the server DNS settings to register them in the new DNS server.
