  • Raising Domain functional level

    Hi everyone,

    I need some help here...

Current Setup: Windows 2003 Active Directory

Domain funcational level: Window 2000 mixed mode
    Forest funcational level: Windows 2000

I don't have any Win2000 DC...I only have 4 Win2000 web servers and 2 Window 2000 sql servers and reset of them all Windows 2003.

This is what i want to do...

I would like to add Windows 2008 R2 X64 bit domain controller before i could do that i need to raise a domain funcational and forest funcational level to windows 2003 native mode i believe. ....Correct?

Can i actully break anything if were to raising forest and domain funcational level to windows 2003 native mode? what are the risks?

    Many thanks,
    yzr

    Re: Raising Domain functional level

Mixed mode is not supported but 2000 native or higher is ok.

    Have you seen this?

With regards to issues with forest preps I've never seen any problems apart from this which doesn't apply to you.

If you're schema has had any custom modifications then you should be perfectly fine.

Obviously make sure you have good backups though.
