  • Clarification on Global/Local accounts

I am new to this forum and to AD, so apology if this questions has been asked b4.

Environment WinXP SP3 and Active directory

    1. When a user on XP logs in to domain, does it also login to local windows XP?
    2. What account and profile it uses on the XP machine to login?
    3. If the network is disconnected, Can a user login to the stand alone XP machine using that account profile?
    4. What is the pw for that account?
    5. If user "un-joins" the domain using the "Network Identification Wizard" to get rid of the domain, and make it Workgroup network, What happens to the XP account/profile mentioned in 2, 3 and 4 above?
    6. How can I get My-documents from that account back. It does not show up in the C:\Documents and Settings?

    Thanks for your help?

    Re: Clarification on Global/Local accounts

    1. No. The account is based in AD and is authenticated at a global catalog server.
    2. Depends on how the users account is setup. If nothing is setup for them then it will create a local profile on the system. If roaming profiles are setup it will use a profile somewhere like a server.
    3. If cached credentials is enabled then yes they can.
    4. I have no idea what the password would be.
    5. Nothing. It will still reside on the local machine or server depending on the setup used.
    6. Data recovery.
