How much Active Directory experience do you have?
See some of the numerous articles on about joining ubuntu to a domain

Can the Ubuntu box ping your DC?

Can you post an IPCONFIG/ALL from your DC and the linux equivalent (and please don't ask me what it is) from the Ubuntu box

It sounds as if the Ubuntu box does not have DNS configured properly

Re: Join ubuntu to domain server 2008 R2

It would be nice if you post an ipconfig /all and a ifconfig from the linux system.
Secondly a cat /etc/resolv.conf from the linux system would be helpful.
