  • Relocate DC & Exchange to different physical site

    Hi,
    We're planning to relocate our server room to new building.
    however, we also gonna need to change network ip range.

    current;
    network : 192.168.3.0/24
    dc 2008 r2 : 192.168.3.x
    exchange 2010 sp1 : 192.168.3.x

    new location;
    network : 10.x.x.x/8
    dc : 10.x.x.x
    exchange : 10.x.x.x

    update: the dc & exchange running on hyper v.

    can someone help me to clear out how the process will be? thanks

    A lot of unknowns, and maybe a consultant will be your best option.
    Are you leaving the current site on its present IP or is it changing too?
    Anyway, rough process:
    1) Establish site to site VPN with good bandwidth
    2) Plan for downtime
    3) Move servers
    4) Change Server IPs
    5) Point Public MX records to new site IP and set up suitable port forwarding at your routers
    6) Change clients to point to new DC IP for DNS
    7) Adjust DHCP and ensure relay between sites

      thanks.
      fyi, we are moving. moving physical server and change its present IP to the new.

      i assume the steps give above are to replicating site to site DC right?
      so to simplify the steps.
      1) Plan for downtime
      2) Move servers
      3) Change DC&Exchange Server IPs
      4) Point Public MX records to new site IP and set up suitable port forwarding at your routers
      5) Change clients to point to new DC IP for DNS
      6) Adjust DHCP and ensure relay between sites

      is it?
      is it to simple to change DC IP?

        VPN is to allow the current site to see the new server room
        If all clients are moving, ignore step1

        Changing DC IP is the same as any othe computer, but must make sure clients can see the new IP as DNS
