  • How to prevent installation of toolbars in IE6 on network PC's...

Win2003 Enterprise Server with XP Pro SP2 Workstations

Hey there everyone! another question regarding disabling those perky toolbars that users love to download...

As a test I tried creating a path rule under security settings to prevent running the google toolbar. It's installed under C:\program files\google\ and it calls a dll file "GoogleToolbar2.dll". After some further research it seems that the file then calls an htm file called "cmsearch.html", this can be seen in regedit [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt\&Google Search] with a string value of "res://c:\program files\google\GoogleToolbar2.dll/cmsearch.html".

I was unable to find that cmsearch.html on the drive so I cant point it to that file, but in the path rule I added that path anyways, with the "res://" and without it. Still when I open IE I can show/hid the google toolbar.

Is there an easy way to prevent this?

    Thanks again,

    ceez
