  • SysVol shared folder not on my additional DC

I have setup three DC in my office, one is primary which holds all the five FSMO roles and others are just a secondary DC.

When i open my Primary DC with the UNC path i can see the share folder SysVol, NetLogon etc.. But when i open my additional DC with the UNC path i can't see the share folders.

I tried to take a system state backup of my other DC through ntdsutil > ifm, but i ended up with an error can't access sysvol folder.

Do i have to share the sysvol folder on the additional DC manually.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

It should be shared automatically. If it isnt, something is very wrong

Unpromo the problem DC, do a metadata cleanup and re-promo it (ideally after a full rebuild and with a different name)

btw, can you give us the server OS versions to help give more informed help

Re: SysVol shared folder not on my additional DC

Given the various issues you are having with this network, and your request for training materials for AD management, I think you should seriously consider getting a consultant in to review it, fix errors (or move to a new AD infrastructure) and help get you up to speed on management tasks.

But to try to help a bit more - can you confirm that SYSVOL has appeared on the problem server but not NETLOGON, but both appear on all other DCs?

Re: SysVol shared folder not on my additional DC

On my Primary DC i.e. mumdc2.octo pass all the test of dcdaig. SysVol and Netlogon share folders are available.

On my additional DC mumdc3.octo and mumdc4.octo dcdiag test doesnot pass the for netlogon. Sysvol share folder is available but Netlogon share folder is not available.

Is there a mumdc1? If so what does it show?

Run an IPCONFIG/REGISTERDNS on dc3 and 4 and check all can be pinged by name and fqdn both locally and from the other DCs

Re: SysVol shared folder not on my additional DC

Is DNS running on all boxes or just one?
If it's on mumdc2 then set 3 and 4 to only use mumdc2 as their DNS server and reboot (can restart netlogon etc but I would go for a full reboot). Run dcdiag on them all again.

Can you run an ipconfig /all on them and post too please?
                  cheers

Re: SysVol shared folder not on my additional DC

DNS Server is running on MumDc2.octo and MumDc3.octo.

MumDc4 is only with ADS role.

All users uses MumDc2.octo as primary Domain and MumDc3.octo as secondary Domain for DNS resolution.

On MumDc2.octo, MumDc3.octo and MumDc4.octo primary DNS is MumDc2.octo and secondary DNS is MumDc3.octo.

Re: SysVol shared folder not on my additional DC

In general the primary DNS on a DC should be the local server if it runs DNS.

Are these the only 3 DCs in the domain?
                      Are there multiple sites?

Ok, then i will change MumDc3.octo primary DNS as local, and restart the Netlogon service.

Only three DCs in the domain with one site Mumbai1.

I am tring to demote my last domain controller. But i am getting an warning that if you "Beware all user and computer accounts will be delete".

What does this means. If i demote this domain controller will all the users and computer accounts which i have created will remove from my other domain controllers.
